Airline could have defused problem
Airline could have defused problem
A couple of weeks ago, there were some Iraqi nationals who caused a huge problem aboard a commercial airliner because they were talking in their native language. People immediately thought, terrorists!
I lay full blame for this incident on the airline in question. If they had been a little "proactive" and announced that these people were here to help our military, don't you think they probably would have gotten a standing ovation, when they entered that plane?
Customer service sure has taken a back seat in the airline industry, no doubt about it.

Heroes stepped up to help the schools
The village of Gurnee demonstrated to the world that it truly does take an entire village to educate a child.
In the recent flooding of Gurnee Grade School, the village of Gurnee led by the village Administrator, Mr. Jim Hayner; Chief of Police, Mr. Bob Jones; Chief of the Fire Department, Mr. Fred Friedl; the United States Navy; and many other concerned agencies in Gurnee and Lake County performed a Herculean task to sandbag Gurnee Grade School and protect it from the potential devastation of the flood.
In addition to those individuals, the supervisor of facilities and grounds for District 56, Mr. Mike Nichols, and his staff worked 24-hour shifts nonstop from the beginning of the flood.
All of these individuals have earned the right to be called a hero in this time of adversity. On behalf of the District 56 Board of Education, I would like to thank all those individuals who unselfishly gave so much of themselves to protect our school.
All of these individuals demonstrated the true meaning of the word community service.
It is my hope our students will be able to reflect on this community effort and some day provide the same service to the communities that they will some day live.
Although saving the building was important, I am not so sure that this lesson was not the most important lesson of all for them to learn. A number of people asked me during the process if I would have accepted my job knowing what I know now.
My answer was that this experience has only solidified the correctness of my decision.
I was certainly honored to work shoulder to shoulder with all the wonderful people who gave so much to save our school and am equally honored to serve them as their superintendent of schools.

Bush, Cheney set disastrous course
The American people better wake up before we lose America. George Bush and Dick Cheney started a war in Iraq with lies and fear. We are trillions of dollars in the red. Too many deaths and disabled are because of this war. Now they want to start with Iran and Pakistan. Our country has many problems with goods from China, thanks to the greedy corporations that have gone there -- all of our business and factories.
Our problems with illegals at the border are not being taken care of as promised.
