Lancers advance to regional tourney

The College of Lake County baseball team is moving on.

The Lancers wrapped up their own sectional Sunday by beating McHenry County College 17-3 in Grayslake.

CLC went 3-1 in the sectional tournament, bringing its season record to 28-8.

The Lancers also edged McHenry 9-8 and topped Prairie State 7-5 in 10 innings on a walk-off 2-run home run by Marcos Peñaloza, before losing to McHenry 5-4.

In Sunday's win, Zach Amrein went 3-for-5 with 2 home runs and 4 RBI, Carlos Zuniga was 3-for-5 with a home run and double and 3 RBI, and Peñaloza went 4-for-5 with a double, triple and 4 RBI.

Travis Pedersen pitched 6 innings for the win. Dan Regel and Pedro Leon combined to shut down McHenry for the last three innings.

Lake County next plays in the regionals, beginning Thursday at 3 p.m. against Elgin Community College at Highland Community College in Freeport. The other teams in the tournament are Blackhawk Community College and Kankakee Community College. All four teams are No. 1 seeds in their respective sectionals.
