More reasons for nation's malaise
Froma Harrop's column (July 25) states that the theory of evolution is the building block of modern biology. I thank her for using the word "theory", because evolution as it is being taught has never been proven -- that's why it is labeled "theory."
And if you believe science is always right (no errors, no deception), then the scientists who disagree with the "theory" of evolution have to be considered. Aren't you a little curious?
She goes from evolution to those with "hostile" feelings toward embryonic stem cell research. People wouldn't be so disappointed if they were told about adult stem cell treatments that do work.
And global warming? Well, I've been around a long time, and have seen years of seasons come and go -- they never stay static. There is always change and there are scientists (are you curious?) who agree. Maybe if people stop falling for every cause, whim, and agenda that demand funding (without accountability), we'd all be better off.
If people are feeling conned, as she so confidently expressed, she needs to take off her blinders so she can see clearly. There is reason for a complete overhaul across the board, for our ills are never attributed to only one political side. Sorry, Froma.
The word terrorism was omitted from this wordy article; "Mood sours as Americans see their nation in decline." If terrorism is real, and it is real (worldwide) and we aren't doing everything possible to remain safe, then none of the above matters.
Her piece ends by saying people are in a rotten mood because they have a sense they are losing what made "them" (our nation) great. If this is so, it's because they are not being taught what it is that made this nation great in the first place.
They should know that we were founded as God and nation (a hated truth for some to swallow). Today, we are on the brink of becoming a nation without God -- a nation without a conscience.
Judges are making laws instead of upholding the law, and the knowledge of American history has become irrelevant and altered. There is an absence of heroes with integrity for our kids to look up to, and parents who can't parent. Long-standing American freedoms and free speech are being chipped away one by one, and our universities honor professors who espouse Communism and hatred for America.
Harrop claims Americans prize individualism and clearly value being part of a unique national story. However, if people aren't aware of the above negative changes in this country, and do not strive to turn things around, the unique national story is not being told.
Reality is, a large majority of people don't have a clue.
