Man charged in Elgin home invasion, attack on residents

An Elgin man broke down a front door Thursday night and attacked two people in their home with a metal rod, Elgin police said.

Tyrone R. Washington of 472 E. Chicago St. was charged with two felony counts of home invasion and is being held without bond at the Kane County jail.

Washington broke down the door of 492 E. Chicago St. at 9:30 p.m. Thursday and attacked a man and woman inside, police said.

Washington struck the woman with a metal rod several times before she grabbed a box cutter, swung it at him and cut his hand slightly, police said.

Then he swung the rod at the man but missed and was eventually subdued by officers, police said.

After he was arrested, Washington fought with the jailer at the Elgin lockup and attempted to urinate on him, police said.

Washington was on parole for a drug conviction, Kane County prosecutors said.

Washington was held without bond and taken to the Kane County jail. His next court date is Tuesday at the Kane County Judicial Center.
