Scouting: Stevenson @ Lake Forest
Stevenson (3-0, 1-0) at Lake Forest (1-2, 1-0)
When 7:30 p.m.
Last week Stevenson def. Mundelein, 42-0; Lake Forest def. Libertyville, 38-28.
Outlook It's Stevenson's turn to test the luck of the Irish. Lake Forest quarterback Tommy Rees has started the season with a bang, showing exactly why Notre Dame thought enough to recruit him. Last week against Libertyville, Rees, the state's top passer, completed an astounding 30-of-43 passes for 347 yards. He also tossed 4 touchdown passes. One of Rees' favorite targets is Connor Moutvic. He caught 2 touchdowns and rolled up 186 receiving yards (on 15 receptions) against Libertyville. "They've got a very good quarterback in that kid," Stevenson coach Bill Mitz said of Rees. "He can throw the ball very well, he can run, too. We've got to be ready for him. He releases the ball well, he sees the field well. We're going to have to control the ball because I think our best defense against him is for our offense to stay on the field. We've got to control the clock so that he can't."-Luckily, the Patriots are already pretty good at holding onto the ball. Their rushing game has been extremely effective this season, thanks in large part to Mark Weisman, an Air Force recruit who is tough to bring down. Weisman gets even tougher when you factor in Stevenson's efficient passing game, which prevents defenses from stacking the box. "Our quarterback (Kevin Earl) is playing extremely well for us," Mitz said. "He's scrambling, he's throwing the ball well, reading defenses well. He's really opening up our offense."
