Students add up wins at math bowl

Student teams from Schneider and Goodwin Elementary Schools placed first in the recent Elementary Math Bowl for fourth- and fifth-graders in the West Aurora School District. Freeman, Greenman, Lincoln and Schneider students took first in the individual competition.

More than 200 students took part in the competition April 8 at West Aurora High School. Students participated in two events, a 30-minute individual contest of 20 questions, followed by a 20-minute team contest of 20 questions.

Individual winners for fourth-grade

• First place: Megan Voris (Freeman), Jose Salgado (Lincoln) and Nicole Tartagila (Schneider)

• Second place: Eric Haverkate (Fearn), Lauren Pangelinan (McCleery), Priya Baichoo, (Schneider), Justin Brothers (Schneider), Tyler Kledzik (Schneider) and Jovan Suvria (Schneider)

• Third place, Victoria Linner (McCleery)

Individual winners for fifth-grade

• First place: Oscar Gaytan (Greenman)

• Second place: Victor Figuerora (Greenman) and Alyda Huerta (Schneider)

• Third place: William Spooner (Fearn), Rachel Waltemire (Goodwin), Steban Martinez (McCleery) and Miranda Gollwitzer (Schneider)

Team winners for fourth-grade

• First place: Schneider - Priya Baichoo, Hailey Becker, Justin Brothers, Tyler, Kledzik, Emily Laughead, Jamie McCreedy, Jovan Suvira & Nichole Tartaglia

• Second place: Goodwin - Jacob Chaurize, Melissa Fidler, Brett Kauffmann, Win Kipp, Sam Lawless, Kenneth Sodetz, Theresa Wagner and Mariyah Zeitz

• Third place (tie) - Greenman - Maiya Buck-Judon, Norberto Aleman-Padilla, Jonathan Herrera, Jimmy Lewis, Demian Arroyo, Jacob Elkins, Cassandra Echeverria, Manuel Solorzano; Hall - Cara Jimenez (captain), Ellie Sherwood, Alan Morrow, Kelly McCaffery, EJ McLaren, Colleen Sullivan, Payton Griffin, Lauren Waitt, Bridgette Ortlieb, Daniel Byrd (alternate) and Brailyn Rhodes (alternate)
