ISSUE QUESTIONS
What are the most important issues facing your community and how do you intend to address them?
Honesty and integrity
A mix of housing options in the downtown area! No more affordable housing and senior only buildings! The downtown master plan calls for a mix of housing not all senior and affordable housing!
Community involvement! The current board members don't participate in community events most don't even go to the meetings of the committees or departments they're the liaison to!
What makes you the best candidate for the job?
My past dedication and commitment. I've been helping South Elgin be a better place to live for close to 30 years. I took the responsibilities of Trustee seriously and was always prepared. I'm active in the community and like to help with event planning and set up and take down. Some trustees show up when the cameras are around. I'm there before, during and after!
I've been a member of SEBA Park inclusive park committee. A great group of community members who planned a unique all inclusive playground with private donations and grants! A 1 million dollar and eventually a 1.3 million dollar investment in our community paid for with no South Elgin tax money! A regional one of a kind park! No other candidate can say they participate in South Elgin events more than me!
Describe your leadership style and explain how you think that will be effective in producing actions and decisions with your village board or city council.
I lead by example by getting to know community members by participating in events and talking to people and employees. I'll be fair to all residents and neighborhoods. I am an individual thinker and won't follow the pack. In my first 12 years on the board I was instrumental in convincing the other board members to go with the lowest bid on our garbage contract! The other trustees wanted to go with the waste disposal company we were using at the time because they liked the service we were receiving! I insisted we go with the lowest qualified bidder and demand the level of service we were used to. We went with the lowest bid saving each household close to $4 a month for the length of that contract. We must use the lowest bid to encourage other contractors to bid on products and services to get bids that are competitive!
How would you describe the condition of your community's budget, and what are the most important specific actions the town should take to assure providing the level of services people want?
Take care of the whole village.
What's one good idea you have to better the community that no one is talking about yet?
Building a $1.3 million dollar playground with 100% donated funds and actually helping plan and build something that will truly benefit our community for years to come. Not only because of the physical playground but the lessons learned by kids of all abilities playing and learning together!
Not one current trustee helped in any way shape or form! Which is very typical of their community involvement!
