Joliet man held in girlfriend's fatal stabbing

Joliet police say they have arrested the boyfriend of a 21-year-old woman who was found dead of multiple stab wounds in a public park.

Joliet Police Lt. Edgar Gregory says Brittany Brooks' body was spotted by a passer-by late Wednesday night. It was lying near her parked car.

Officers say Brooks' 23-year-old boyfriend had blood on his clothing when he was arrested early Thursday.

Authorities say the couple had a history of domestic violence allegations, and in November 2007 each filed an order of protection against the other. Both cases were dismissed.

Charles Pelkie, a spokesman for the Will County State's Attorney's office, said late Thursday that charges of first degree murder were pending against the boyfriend, who was being held in the county jail.
