3-way race would be good for Lombard

The year 2009 will certainly prove to be yet another interesting year in terms of Lombard politics.

Trustee Rick Soderstrom has announced his intentions to run for village president. Current Village President Bill Mueller has made it clear he intends to run again. And the rumor swirling around town is that Trustee Laura Fitzpatrick is out collecting signatures for her own possible village president run.

Will it be a three-way race this time around?

Competition on the ballot is a great thing. It will bring key issues to the forefront and hopefully trigger productive debate on viable solutions going forward rather than just digging up past problems like the DuPage Theatre fiasco.

I, for one, look forward to seeing all of the candidates developing and sharing with voters a platform and plan of action while opening a communitywide dialogue that will take us through the ongoing challenges and opportunities Lombard faces.
