Kane jailer on leave amid murder-for-hire claims
A veteran Kane County jail guard is on paid leave while police investigate whether he was involved in a murder-for-hire plot targeting a sheriff's detective, officials confirmed Friday.
The corrections officer is not being identified because he has not been charged with any wrongdoing.
"There's a lot of facts that need to be uncovered," Kane County Sheriff's Lt. Pat Gengler said of an ongoing internal investigation. "Nothing has been decided. The investigation isn't over."
Gengler said the officer has been employed by the sheriff's department for 21 years and is a relative of Plano resident Dijon R. Grissette, who was charged Dec. 4 with soliciting a detective's murder.
The jail guard was put on leave the day Grissette was charged based on claims as yet unproven that the guard received notes from Grissette containing the targeted detective's home address.
Grissette, who was in jail on an unrelated drug charge at the time, is accused of offering $3,000 for having the brother of a fellow inmate kill the detective. The plot was never carried out.
On Friday, Gengler had no timeline for the internal investigation. Grissette, formerly of Sugar Grove, remained in the county jail with bail set at $4 million.
