Polar Express Pajama Party: Wear pajamas to experience the Polar Express. Participants will begin by playing a game and getting to know the other children that will be on the journey then put together a craft to commemorate the evening. Participants will then settle in for a showing of the "Polar Express" with popcorn, hot chocolate and cookies. Participants are encouraged to bring a blanket and pillow. This party is for ages 4 to 10 years from 6 to 8 p.m. Friday. The cost is $20 for residents and $25 for nonresidents. Sign up in advance.
Me and Daddy Holiday Bear: Children ages 3 to 12 with their father can celebrate the holiday by creating a cuddly holiday bear. Participants will stuff the bears, make wishes upon a magical star, create birth certificates, and dress the bears in holiday outfits. The cost is $33 for residents, $41 for nonresidents (dads are free). From 10 to 11 a.m. Saturday at the Lindenhurst Park District Community.
Parent's Night Out: The Lindenhurst Park District's Parent's Night Out will provide dinner, games, crafts, and a movie for ages 5 to 12 from 5 to 9 p.m. Saturday at the Lindenhurst Park District Community Center. The cost is $15 for residents, $19 for nonresidents.
Mother Daughter Hair: Mothers and daughters can spend quality time together while learning how to create up hairdos from the knowledgeable staff. Each girl will get a goodie bag to take home. This event is for girls ages 3 to 14 with their mothers from 11:30 a.m. to 1 p.m. Saturday. The cost is $36 for residents, $45 for nonresidents. Additional daughters are $15.
Christmas Luncheon: Take part in the sixth annual Christmas Party at noon Dec. 20. There will be a catered lunch, time to talk, laugh and play a game. Anyone interested in the Cookie Exchange is asked to bring two dozen homemade cookies or candies. Sign up by Saturday. The menu will be fried chicken, roast beef au jus, tossed green salad, parslied potatoes, California blend veggies, jello salad, drinks and dessert. This party is for ages 50 and over. The cost is $12.
Deck the House: Share in the spirit of the season by taking part in the home decorating contest. To register a house to be judged, call or stop by the Park District office before 5 p.m. Monday. Registered houses will be judged between 5:30 and 7:30 p.m. on Tuesday. The top three houses will win a prize. For Lindenhurst residents only.
Winter Break Camp: Camp is for kindergartners through sixth-graders. Camp hours are 9 a.m. to 4 p.m. with extended care hours from 6 a.m. to 6 p.m. at no additional cost.
Winter Break Camp Session 1 is Dec. 26, 27, 28 and Session 2 is Jan. 2, 3 and 4. Sign up for one day or all three. No same-day registration will be accepted.
Children will participate in a variety of indoor and outdoor activities which may include: crafts, gym time, games, free time, group activities, movies and pajama parties. Bring a lunch and a morning and afternoon snack for your child. The cost is $34 a day. Register at the Lindenhurst Park District.
Wilmot Ski Trip: Wilmot Mountain offers skiing for all ages and skill levels, with eight chair lifts, three rope tows, and 25 open runs for beginner through experienced skiers. For experienced skiers, there is a terrain park that offers rails and big jumps. This trip for children in fifth through ninth grade includes lift ticket, lesson, ski rental (snow board rental is an additional $10), transportation, and chaperone. Bring money for lunch. From 8:30 a.m. to 5:30 p.m. Dec. 28. The cost is $60 for residents, $69 for nonresidents.
Facility Rentals: The Lindenhurst Park District Community Center is available for groups of five to 50 for parties and special occasions. The park district offers low rates, tables and chairs, and a clean and smoke-free environment. Call the park district for details.
Special Recreation Services: Special Recreation Services of Northern Lake County provides recreational programs and services for individuals with special needs for the residents of Lindenhurst, Round Lake, Waukegan, and Zion Park Districts. Fall Program Highlights include: Amish Country Vacation, Halloween Bash, Bowling, Fright Fest, Movie Club, Dances, Diner's Club, Lincoln Park Zoo Trip, Navy Pier, Indoor Mini Golf and more. Entertainment Books: Entertainment Books are now available at the Lindenhurst Park District for $20. Entertainment Books offer 50 percent off and two-for-one discounts at local places for dining, shipping, attractions, sports, services and more.
Dance Classes: The park district offers a variety of dance classes, including I Can Dance Two, Pitter Patter Feet, Beginning Dance," "Ballet," "Tap," Jazz, Funk, Hip Hop, Style of Dance, and Modern/lyrical. Most of the classes begin the first week of September and are held on various days and times. Classes are offered for ages 1½ to adult. Just You & Me Kid: This class designed for toddlers and their parent offers children a wide variety of activities each week in a semi-structured environment. Children learn to adapt to a group setting in a non threatening way. Each week's activities include age appropriate arts and crafts, parachute games, marching band, stories and a song circle. Classes are offered for children ages 18 to 30 months from 9 to 9:45 a.m. on Tuesdays, Thursdays and Fridays, and also from 10 to 10:45 a.m. Tuesdays. Classes are also offered for children ages 30 to 42 months from 11 to 11:45 a.m. Tuesdays and from 10 to 10:45 a.m. Thursdays. The cost is $40 for residents and $50 for nonresidents.
Moms in Motion: New moms can bring their strollers and walk the park district's state-of-the-art, temperature controlled, suspended indoor walking track from 10 to 11 a.m. Tuesdays and Thursdays year-round. There is no instructor for this class. Indoor track fees are charged.
Senior Coffee Club: Relax and enjoy some coffee, doughnuts and company from 9:30 to 10:30 a.m. the first and third Monday of the year in the Senior Room. Walk-ins are welcome; registration is not necessary. Bring a friend. For ages 55 and over on. It's $1 per visit.
Senior Aerobics: Ages 55 and over can keep fit and active with low-impact exercise set to a fitness video from 8:45 to 9:30 a.m. Mondays, Wednesdays and Fridays in the Senior Room. Registration is not required. The fee is $1 per visit.
Cards and Games: Come play a card game or board games at 1 p.m. Thursdays in the Senior Room. Participants may bring a favorite game if they like. Free for those 55 and over.
Mahjongg: The ancient Asian tile game of mahjongg is played at 9:45 a.m. every Monday in the Senior Room for anyone who is interested. Participants who have a game are asked to bring it in.
