Man ordered imprisoned for shooting wife, officer
MARION -- A judge who sentenced a Marion man to a half century in prison for shooting his wife and a police officer says it's a miracle no one was killed in the gunfire.
Williamson County Circuit Judge Philip Palmer made that assessment in sentencing 63-year-old Harry Schauf Jr. Jurors convicted Schauf of aggravated battery in September.
Authorities say he shot Tina Pickens in September of last year and then wounded Marion officer Steve Cannon when Cannon was dispatched to a report of shots fired at the couple's home.
Schauf's attorney argued at trial that his client acted in self-defense
Cannon sustained a hand wound and is recovering.
Police returned fire and wounded Schauf.
