Closet/food pantry needs help

The Self-Help Closet and Pantry of Des Plaines, 600 E. Algonquin Road, is seeking volunteers. Mature individuals who can lift and carry heavy boxes and bags of food are needed to work at the pantry, and drivers with vans are needed to pick up food donations around town. Volunteers must be at least 18 years or be supervised by a parent.

Pantry hours for clients are 12:30 p.m. to 3 p.m. Tuesdays and 10 a.m. to noon Saturdays. For details, call Shirley Eilken, (847) 375-1443. The pantry serves approximately 800 Des Plaines residents each month.

Moonlight and Music July 30

The Rolling Meadows Senior Center will host its "Moonlight and Music" event July 30 at Park Central, 3000 Central Road, across from the Rolling Meadows High School tennis courts. Doors open at 6 p.m.; performance is from 7 to 8:30 p.m. Bring lawn chairs and picnic supper or snacks. The Sun City Concert Band under the direction of Donna Bressler, will feature music with a patriotic theme. The fee for this event is $4, and includes popcorn, iced tea and lemonade. Lions Club duck race rescheduled

The Prospect Heights Lions Club duck race has been rescheduled for 10 a.m. July 19 in Kiwanis Park, 712 N. Elm St., Prospect Heights. Tickets can still be purchased and are $5 per duck, with a chance to win prizes of $500, $300, $200 or $25 (for last place). Contact Lion Tom Peterson at (847) 392-4230 to purchase tickets.
