No injuries reported in Lake Zurich-area fire

A Sunday afternoon house fire near Lake Zurich started in the kitchen, but the cause remains under investigation, officials said Monday.

Officials said in a news release the fire in a home on the 23000 block of Midlothian Road in unincorporated Lake County began at 3:54 p.m. The first units on the scene reported seeing smoke and fire in the first floor windows.

A woman who said she was the homeowner was sitting in a vehicle with a child when crews arrived. She said no one was in the home, but the family pet was killed in the blaze.

The fire was under control within 45 minutes, officials said. The home sustained extensive fire and smoke damage and has been declared uninhabitable.

Departments from Wauconda, Barrington, Long Grove, Palatine, Lincolnshire, Lake Forest, Buffalo Grove, Mundelein and Algonquin assisted.

Midlothian Road was closed near Enterprise Parkway for about two hours during the fire.
