Elmhurst man accused of threatening DuPage Co. state's attorney
A 49-year-old Elmhurst man is facing criminal charges for making a series of "harassing and threatening" phone calls to DuPage County State's Attorney Joe Birkett, authorities said.
Harold Nichols, address unknown, has been charged with two counts of threatening a public official and one count of telephone harassment, according to Paul Darrah, spokesman for the state's attorney's office.
Nichols is being held at the DuPage County jail. On Thursday morning, his bond was set at $250,000.
Authorities didn't say when the calls to Birkett were made. Nichols was arrested Wednesday night by DuPage County Sheriff's deputies, officials said.
Darrah said it's unlikely the case against Nichols will be handled by the DuPage County State's Attorney's office because Birkett is the alleged victim in the case.
