Naperville cheerleading coach indicted on more sex charges

The legal troubles of a Naperville cheerleading coach continue to mount as authorities are accusing him of molesting a second underage girl under his tutelage.

Bradley S. Abrahams, 29, of Aurora, was indicted this week on eight counts of criminal sexual assault and abuse charges. He is charged with having sex with two girls, then ages 13 and 16, inside ICE Athletics Cheer and Dance, which he co-owns in Naperville.

The first allegation surfaced July 7, 2007, when a parent of the younger girl reported the alleged sexual relationship to police. Upon investigation, authorities accused Abrahams of having sex with the 13-year-old girl in March and April 2006 in the gym's bathroom, athlete's room and a storage area at 127 Ambassador Drive in Naperville.

A second girl also has come forward with similar allegations that she had repeated sex with Abrahams inside the gym back in summer 2003 when she was 16.

Abrahams remains free after posting the required 10 percent of a $1 million bond. He is due in court July 15, when he will be arraigned on the felony charges.

He does not have a prior criminal history, but it is not the first time Abrahams has been accused of having inappropriate contact with a child. In December 2004, he was acquitted of misdemeanor battery after a 16-year-old girl said he inappropriately touched her June 15, 2003, inside his former Naperville apartment.

During his trial, the girl testified Abrahams kissed her and touched her chest underneath her clothes without her consent, and that he knew she was underage because they spoke about her upcoming birthday earlier that night.

Abrahams admitted kissing the girl, but he denied knowing she was just 16.

In acquitting the cheerleading coach, a DuPage County judge said the teen's testimony was more credible than the defendant's, but there wasn't enough evidence to prove his guilt beyond a reasonable doubt.

For example, the girl was unsure of the exact date of the incident and offered conflicting accounts of what had happened.

Abrahams, of 4062 Gabrielle Drive, also worked on a part-time basis as an assistant cheerleading coach in the 2001-2002 school year at Naperville Central High School, but he has not been affiliated with the school since at least 2004.
