Cook Co. GOP co-chair to run for Senate
Eric Wallace, founder of Freedom's Journal Magazine and a co-chairman of the Cook County Republican Party, announced that he will seek the GOP nomination for the U.S. Senate seat now held by Democrat Roland Burris when the seat is up for election in 2010. Wallace said his campaign will focus on what he called the "LIFT Principles" - an acronym referring to limited government, individual freedom, free enterprise and traditional family values. Wallace, who holds a PhD. in biblical studies, is the founder of Wallace Multimedia Group, a former member of the African-American Advisory Board for the Republican National Committee, and an unsuccessful candidate for Illinois state senate in 2006. Several candidates from both parties have begun to line up for the seat, which became controversial when, after being arrested on corruption charges, former Gov. Rod Blagojevich appointed Burris to it. Burris has not said whether he will seek election to a full term.
