Shoeless Joe's temporarily closed in Rosemont after basement flood
Shoeless Joe's Ale House & Grille in Rosemont is temporarily closed while its landlord fixes plumbing and electrical issues in the basement, the bar's owner said Thursday.
The sports bar on the northwest corner of Higgins and Mannheim roads had to shut down early last week when pipes burst in the lower level and flooded the area with several inches of water, according to bar owner Joe Macchitelli.
"It was enough to cause a mess," he said.
That affected the building's electrical systems, shutting down power to the upstairs bar.
Electricity was restored Thursday, but Macchitelli said there's still more cleanup work needed in the basement before the bar can reopen.
Village inspectors also will have to examine the building to make sure it is up to code. They discovered the flooded basement when noticing the building's water meters were running overnight, even though the bar was closed, Macchitelli said.
The flood occurred in a vacant space once occupied by Enigma The Lounge nightclub. Shoeless Joe's, which opened in 1989, is next to the Best Western at O'Hare hotel and a vacant diner, formerly Pine Grove Restaurant.
Shoeless Joe's opened a second location in 2016 on Lake Street in Addison. Macchitelli is hopeful the Rosemont location can reopen sometime next week, and is keeping customers apprised on the bar's Facebook page.
