Man charged with speeding away from Oak Brook police

Pretrial release has been denied for a Chicago man accused of evading police while having a loaded handgun.

Quinton Hicks, 38, is charged with armed habitual criminal, unlawful possession of a weapon by a felon and aggravated fleeing and eluding a police officer, according to a news release from the DuPage County State’s Attorney’s Office.

Hicks lives in the 7900 block of South Marshfield Avenue, Chicago.

The charges allege that at 2:56 a.m. Saturday, an Oak Brook police officer saw a vehicle on 22nd Street and Midwest Road driving 55 mph in a 35 mph zone. Police say Hicks was driving.

As the officer tried to stop him, Hicks went through a red light and drove at speeds up to 70 mph. Despite police deflating his tires with a spike strip, he drove on I-294 at 80 mph until the car became disabled in Northlake.

When police checked the glove compartment, they found an SCCY .380-caliber handgun with a bullet in the chamber, authorities said.
