Kenosha man killed in Beach Park crash

A 52-year-old Kenosha man was killed in a head-on collision in Beach Park early Thursday evening, according to authorities.

Randal Smith was driving a pickup truck when his vehicle and a semitrailer truck collided head-on at the intersection of Green Bay Road and Kenosha Road at approximately 4:39 p.m., according to the Lake County Sheriff's Office.

Smith was transported to Vista East Medical Center in Waukegan where he was pronounced dead from multiple injuries at about 6 p.m., said Lake County Coroner Richard Keller.

Police said the driver of the semitrailer was from Fremont, Calif., but could not say whether any citations had been issued.

The accident completely shut down Green Bay Road while police investigated the scene.

Semitrailer truck experts from the Illinois State Police were brought to the scene to investigate, but the cause of the accident remained under investigation late Thursday night.
