Maine West nips Niles North

Maine West knew it was in for a defensive challenge Fridy night when it traveled to face Niles North and New Mexico recruit Abdul Nader on Friday.

Nader had games of 49 and 41 points this season. But the Warriors (6-2, 3-0) limited Nader to 26 and held on for a 50-44 Central Suburban North victory.

"We did a great job of staying focused in our zone sets and making him work really hard," Maine West coach Erik McNeill said of Nader missing all 7 of his 3-point attempts and finishing 10-for-21 from the field. "We tried to mix up our zones and keep the tempo controlled and a little slower than we normally like."

Odera Eneogwe led Maine West (6-2, 3-0) with 16 points and 13 rebounds. Paul Solka had 6 points and 8 rebounds and Kevin Garcia added 9 points.

"We really did a nice job on the defensive glass," McNeill said. "They put a lot of pressure on us at the end but we were able to maintain the lead."

Maine West has now surpassed its CSL North win total of last season.
