BMW Championship moved back a week

As expected, the BMW Championship at Cog Hill will be moved back a week next year in order to give players a week off following the Deutsche Bank Championship, which wraps up on Labor Day.

Last year, the 70 players who advanced to Cog Hill didn't seem too happy with the quick turnaround from the DBC to the BMW, the third FedEx Cup playoffs event.

But now, with the extra time between tournaments, everyone should be happy.

“We're excited about the new dates, and we think Chicago's golf fans will be as well,” said Vince Pellegrino, Western Golf Association vice president of tournaments. “Players who qualify for the BMW Championship now will have the option of arriving on Monday for their practice rounds, giving fans an extra day to come out to Cog Hill and follow their PGA Tour favorites.”

The playoffs open Aug. 25-28 with The Barclays at Plainfield Country Club in New Jersey. It then shifts to the Deutsche Bank Championship at TPC Boston on Sept. 2-5 before the one-week break.

The playoffs resume with the BMW Championship at Cog Hill Golf on Sept. 15-18 and conclude with The Tour Championship at East Lake Golf Club in Atlanta on Sept. 22-25.

Championship week at Cog Hill will start Monday, Sept. 12, with the four rounds of competition set for Thursday through Sunday.
