Two charged with felony battery in Grayslake apartment fight
Grayslake Police took two men into custody and are searching for a third on allegations they beat a Zion man with a broken table leg during a fight at a local apartment building.
Ricky R. Clay, 25, of the 400 block of Filweber Drive in Antioch, and Kortillous A. Wilson, 17, of the 200 block of Woodland Drive in Round Lake Beach, are each being held in Lake County jail in lieu of $50,000 bond set on aggravated battery charges, said Grayslake Police Chief Larry Herzog.
Herzog said police were called at 8:38 p.m. Nov. 16 to 1807 Country Drive for a report of a domestic battery. Dispatchers heard voices yelling and glass breaking during the call, police said.
On arrival, officers saw several people running from the apartment complex, Herzog said, but they were able to grab Clay and Wilson before they escaped. A third man got away, despite officers searching the area with help from a K-9 unit, Herzog said.
Clay was stabbed during the fight, Herzog said, while Wilson suffered a head wound. Both were transported to Advocate Condell Medical Center in Libertyville where, Herzog said, they were verbally abusive and physically uncooperative with hospital staff. They were treated at the hospital and later released.
An investigation found that Clay, Wilson and the third male who remains at large attacked the 23-year-old victim with wood table legs broken off a table, Herzog said. The attack came after the suspects shouted gang slang at the Zion man, Herzog added.
The victim stabbed Clay in the chest with a kitchen knife while attempting to fend off his attackers, Herzog said.
The victim was treated and released for numerous cut and abrasions at the Lake Forest Hospital care center in Grayslake. police said.
Officers recovered the wooden table legs and the knife at the scene. The incident remains under investigation, Herzog said.
