Neuqua Valley edges Morton

Neuqua Valley made 20 of 25 free throws, including 13 of 18 in the fourth quarter, to win its season opener 74-69 over Morton at the York Thanksgiving Tournament.

Jim Stocki scored 13 of his game-high 29 points in the fourth quarter and Neuqua’s sole returning starter, Sam Johnson, had 8 of his 28 to lift the Wildcats from a 50-49 deficit after three quarters. Neuqua made eight 3-pointers, 4 from Stocki and 3 from Johnson.

Addison Trail 72, Little Village 65: Armin Trgo scored 35 points to lead the Blazers at Reavis.

Naperville North 59, DeKalb 48: The Huskies (1-1) recovered from a loss in their opener to beat the 0-2 Barbs behind 20 points from Jovonn Griffin, 17 from Jon Mengel and 11 from Nick Buege at the Hoops for Healing Tournament.

Waubonsie Valley 63, Marmion 50: Waubonsie Valley (1-1) also got better at Hoops for Healing. Jared Brownridge score 20 points, Xavier Biles added 12 and Jakobi Johnson 10 to drop Marmion to 0-2.

Timothy Christian 73, Perspectives 64: At Lisle, Anthony Davis scored 41 points with 21 rebounds, but it wasn’t enough against the team play of Timothy Christian (1-0). Returning starter Mark Penczak made 15 of 19 free throws to lead the Trojans with 27 points while Dan Leach hit five 3s and scored 24.

Providence-St. Mel 60, Lisle 47: Chris Wray scored a game-high 21 points and Phil Palicka notched 11 in the host Lions’ season-opening loss.
