Anti-hunger, abuse groups get Meijer donations

A pair of suburban organizations that assist the hungry and others in need received a boost this week when the Michigan-based Meijer announced its Rolling Meadows store will be supplying them with fresh produce, meat, dairy and deli items.

The donations will go to the Community Economic Development Association (CEDA Northwest Pantry) in Des Plaines and the Women in Need Growing Stronger Program (WINGS) in Palatine.

CEDA Northwest Pantry assists Des Plaines area individuals and families needing food. The food donated to WINGS will help homeless and abused women.

Meijer stores in Niles and Orland Park are taking part in the food rescue program with the Greater Chicago Food Depository, the company also announced. Among the items being donated are packaged ready-to-eat lunch and breakfast meats and cheeses, ground beef, pork and veal, fresh pizzas and bakery goods, as well as water, juice boxes and snacks.
