Batavia MainStreet hosts volunteer open house
Batavia MainStreet invites the community to attend its open house on Thursday, Nov. 4 to preview its 2011 projects. This one-hour open house is from 7:30 to 8:30 p.m. in the city council chambers at Batavia city hall, 100 N. Island Ave.
Potential volunteers can pick up information about getting involved with 2011 downtown events like the Batavia House Walk, BatFest, Art in Your Eye, the Downtown Block Party and the Gala on the Fox.
Britta McKenna, executive director of Batavia MainStreet, said, “Many people want to learn more about MainStreet and how to get involved in our events or projects. This open house is a great opportunity to talk with some of our volunteers and also to sign up to get involved in 2011.”
Additionally, volunteers and information from projects like Batavia's Community Garden, the Batavia Farmers Market, downtown design and beautification, economic development and more will be available to share what is in store for 2011. A dessert buffet featuring MainStreet volunteer favorites will be served. No RSVP is needed and people are invited to drop in anytime between 7:30 and 8:30 p.m. to learn more about Batavia MainStreet and how citizens can work with MainStreet to help make downtown Batavia a better place to live, work and play.
The Batavia MainStreet Program is one of 55 nonprofit, community-based organizations in the state of Illinois and one of six Premier Programs designated in Illinois. Its mission is to enhance the identity of Batavia's downtown area as the heart of our community. Its members work through the four points, design, economic restructuring, organization and promotion to improve the downtown district. MainStreet volunteers believe the revitalization of Downtown Batavia is essential to our community's sense of pride, place, and heritage for this and future generations.
