Regional outlook: Hampshire’s Ellett sisters will both be contenders for the top individual spot at Prairie Isle. Connie Ellett recently won the Big Northern Conference individual championship, while Taylor finished second. The sisters recently led Hampshire to its third-straight conference title. Taylor Ellett is looking for her fourth trip to the state tournament. “My goal from here on out is to play really solid golf and advance each time, she said. “It’s not about winning every single thing. Right now, it’s about advancing to the next part. It’s not like I don’t want to win. The mental part of the game now is to make advance to the next level, not ‘I have to win this tournament.’ Taylor Ellett has been working on a variety of different things leading up to Wednesday’s event. “I’ve been working on my sand shots, she said. “I’m working on things to stay sharp the next few weeks. Connie Ellett noted she has some familiarity with the course. “We’ve played Prairie Isle a couple of times, said Ellett. “Keeping the ball straight out there is the key. There is a lot of water. The course is pretty easy, but if you’re crooked out there, it’s a difficult course. Connie has the same mental strategy as her older sister. “I want to play as well as I can, she said. “I have to get to the next level. That’s the goal. There isn’t that pressure that you have to win the tournament. You have to get in the top 10 (to advance as an individual not on a qualifying team). If you don’t, you’re out. So there’s still some pressure there. Taylor Ellett feels Hampshire could be in contention for one of the top three team sectional-qualifying berths. “I think it’s possible, said Taylor Ellett. “If we play well, I think we have a chance to make it out, said Connie Ellett. The Crystal Lake co-op team, which features Cary-Grove’s Michelle Schoch, won the Fox Valley Conference title with a league-record 339 recently. Schoolmates Amalia Emma and Ashley Booth also earned all-conference honors, as did teammate Amanda Willis (Crystal Lake South). Jacobs features two all-conference performers in Morgan Harvey and Kelsey Woloszyk. Samantha Wightman was Huntley’s low conference scorer, while Lauren Wendt leads the way for Dundee-Crown. Junior Sam Coyne of the Bartlett/South Elgin co-op would appear to have that team’s best chance of advancing from the ultra-tough St. Charles East regional at St. Andrews.
