Man attempts to board O'Hare plane with loaded gun

A Michigan man was arrested Saturday morning at O'Hare International Airport after attempting to board a flight with a fully loaded handgun, Chicago police said.

Francis Cook IV, 67, of Delton, Mich., is charged with attempting to board an aircraft with a weapon, a felony, after airport security found a .380-semiautomatic handgun in his carry-on bag, police said.

The gun, which was spotted at about 11:30 a.m. by the Transportation Safety Administration on an X-Ray machine, was loaded with six rounds in the magazine and one in the chamber, said Chicago Police Officer Darryl Baety.

Cook was attempting to board a flight to Dallas before his arrest and is currently in the custody of the Chicago Police Department, Baety said.

Police would not comment on Cook's motivation or any statements made.
