Winds fuel Naperville fire causing $200K damage
Heavy wind conditions caused a fire to rip through the entire second floor of a Naperville home Tuesday afternoon, leaving the residence uninhabitable, fire officials said.
A resident across the street from the home on the 800 block of Bauer Road called 911 at 1:56 p.m. reporting flames coming from the front of the house, according to the Naperville Fire Department.
Responding crews found heavy smoke and fire coming from the second floor windows and eaves of the roof of the two story, single family home, officials said.
No one was injured during the fire, but three family pets did not survive due to heavy smoke and heat, according to the fire department.
The main body of the fire was extinguished within twenty minutes, but firefighters remained on the scene for more than two hours extinguishing small patches of fire that had spread due to high winds.
Thirty-one firefighters were on the scene Tuesday afternoon as crews from the Plainfield Fire Protection District, the Bolingbrook Fire Department and the Warrenville Fire Protection District assisted the Naperville Fire Department.
Fire officials have estimated the damage at over $200,000.
