Downstate man found dead in Sangamon River

SPRINGFIELD -- Authorities in central Illinois used sonar to locate the body of a 31-year-old man in the Sangamon River.

The Mechanicsburg man was found Sunday evening. He'd been reported missing the night before.

The (Springfield) State Journal-Register says he'd apparently drowned.

Sangamon County Coroner Susan Boone says the man's name wasn't immediately being released.

His johnboat and his body were found near an old, partially removed dam on the Sangamon River, about 1.5 miles downstream from Riverside Park.
