St. Louis-area man dies in skydiving accident
VANDALIA -- A suburban St. Louis man has died after falling more than 5,000 feet while skydiving.
KSDK-TV reports that 24-year-old Jonathan Bullar of Maryland Heights, Mo., died Saturday evening at Archway Skydiving Center at an airport near Vandalia, Ill. Investigators don't yet know if the accident was the result of a parachute malfunction or operator error.
Fayette County Coroner Bruce Bowen says Bullar's parachute did not fully inflate or deploy. Bullar's landed in a bean field near the airport.
Archway Skydiving owner Jason Mark says it was the first fatality after more than 100,000 skydives since he took over the company in 1999.
