Randall lane closed for marsh work
One northbound lane of Randall Road will be closed for one to two days, starting Thursday, just north of Mill Street in Batavia.
The lane will be closed to accommodate work related to the Braeburn Marsh maintenance and restoration project.
The lane will be closed from 9 a.m. to 3 p.m.
Over the last few weeks, a contractor hired by Batavia has been removing invasive cattails and reed grass from the marsh, widening and regrading a drainage channel, and installing sediment and erosion controls.
The work is being done to alleviate flooding in nearby homes.
A buildup of sediment and plant debris over the last 20-plus years had reduced the water-holding capacity of the marsh by about a foot. Beavers are also fond of building dams in it, people have dumped landscaping waste there, and loose trash got caught on the cattail stalks, further impeding stormwater flow.
For more information on the road closure, call Kurt Nika, chief of traffic and permitting for the Kane County Department of Transportation, at (630) 406-7372. For details about the Braeburn Marsh project, visit cityofbatavia.net and click on “Projects."
