Elk Grove garbage fees frozen for two years
The Elk Grove Village board recently approved a new five-year solid waste and garbage contract with Waste Management freezing monthly fees at current rates for two years for single-family detached and attached homes, and one year for multifamily dwellings.
Prices are going up next month, however, for yard waste and toter rental. The yard waste sticker price is rising from $1.25 the rate it has been since 1999 to $2 and garbage toter rental fees will increase from $1.50 to $2.25 monthly. Recycling toters will still be provided free.
The current contract is set to expire Oct. 31. The new contract runs from Nov. 1, 2010, through Sept. 1, 2015.
After the first two years, single-family detached homes will see rates increase by 1.3 percent in 2012-2013, 2.1 percent in 2013-2014, and 2.1 percent in 2014-2015. Waste hauler rates for such homes will increase from $17.22 per month to $18.19 per month in the fifth-year of the contract.
Residents will see the current level of service in the collection and removal of nonhazardous waste and recyclables from the village's 15,000 homes and apartments. Waste Management has agreed to service all village facilities and special events free, officials said.
Waste Management also proposes replacing its entire fleet of diesel trucks servicing the village with clean-burning diesel and compressed natural gas trucks over the five-year contract period starting in 2011.
