Rockford man dies weeks after shooting
ROCKFORD -- A 21-year-old Rockford man has died, more than two weeks after he was shot in the head while celebrating a friend's birthday.
Wayne Fricks Jr. was the son of Wayne Fricks, who is the director of Rockford CeaseFire. That group is known for leading candlelight vigils and marches where gun violence occurs.
Fricks Jr. was shot on Sept. 13. He was with a group at the birthday celebration when people heard a gunshot and found Fricks Jr. lying in the grass.
The Rockford Register Star reports that Fricks Jr. died from his wounds at Rockford Memorial Hospital on Thursday.
