Battery charges follow incident at Rolling Meadows ice arena
A Cook County judge set bond at $50,000 Tuesday for a 35-year-old Elmwood Park man charged with striking another man with a knife at about 9:45 p.m. Saturday at a Rolling Meadows ice arena.
Jesse Mendoza, of the 1600 block of 73rd Ave., was charged with aggravated battery with a weapon after he allegedly struck the male victim in the head with a knife, cutting an artery above his eye and lacerating an ear, prosecutors said.
At the time of the incident, the victim and the defendant were in the lobby of the complex, located in the 3900 block of Owl Drive, prosecutors said.
Authorities say the defendant was angry about a woman the victim was dating.
Rolling Meadows Presiding Judge Joseph Urso ordered that Mendoza have no contact with the victim, who was hospitalized for his injuries but was later released, prosecutors said.
If convicted of the class 3 felony, Mendoza could face two to five years in prison. He could also receive probation. He next appears in a Rolling Meadows courtroom on Nov. 16.
