Recall proposal would only hurt democracy

The Constitutional amendment on the Nov. 2 ballot proposes to recall a governor without cause. The procedure to recall a governor can only be accomplished by political parties, special interest groups and lobbyists. The proposed amendment to recall a governor is not something that people, taxpayers like you or me, can use because there is no way any one of us could get 500,000 petitions signed in 100 days and cover at least 25 counties.

I feel that we, the people/taxpayers, should have a mechanism to enforce impeachments of unethical elected officials who violate their oath and/or constitutional and state laws by way of a recall and that any elected official should be accountable to impeachment, not just our constitutional officers.

When voters read this amendment on the ballot they could fall under the impression that this recall is in their interest and they may vote yes. Voting yes to this amendment will only empower special interest groups, lobbyists and political parties with an ability to recall a governor in good standing with the people to satisfy their agendas at a cost to taxpayers that would ultimately undo our vote.

How is something that is so unconstitutional on the ballot to amend our Constitution? This attempt to further destroy democracy and impede on the constitutional rights of the people of Illinois is similar to the 1992 Crime Victims' Rights Constitutional Amendment, whereby those rights were added but have been proven to be unenforceable. Crime victims only receive their constitutional rights at the discretion of state's attorneys!

I hope on Nov. 2 the people will vote “no to this constitutional amendment and protect their right to a democracy for the people and by the people.
