Civil unions an assault on marriage

Maybe it would be wise to assign a story such as “Civil Unions and the Church” to someone who actually has a clue about the teachings of the Catholic Church since that is apparently “the” Church referred to.

Is it helpful to round up people who dissent from their own church teachings to make the case for voting for legislation that directly contradicts the doctrine of the church they profess to belong to? You could ask these same “Catholics” how they feel about the church's unwavering position on abortion and they would make the same case.

They think they know more than the teaching authority of the Magisterium that has been handed down directly from Jesus Christ. You can call yourself anything you want to, but there are certain requirements to be a true Catholic. The Catholic Church is not a Democracy.

These politicians give scandal every time they approach the priest to receive the body and blood of Christ. It is not for us to judge the state of their immortal souls, but we can judge the actions they take in public policy. Life is short but eternity lasts forever. We can only pray that they have the opportunity to repent before they meet their maker.

The civil unions legislation is an assault on marriage. Marriage is what it is. You can try to redefine it but that will never change the natural law that marriage is the union of one man and one woman.

Rather than make special “rights” for homosexuals, we should be helping them to change their orientation. There are hundreds of capable doctors who are willing to work with them. Let's try to get past all this finger pointing and do something constructive.
