South Elgin investigates man's death

Police are conducting a death investigation after the body of a 59-year-old South Elgin man was found Saturday morning in a wooded area just north of the village's Fox River Trolley Museum on South La Fox St.

Raymond Mueller, of the 200 block of South Windsor Court, was found by family members at about 8:20 a.m. after they reported him missing about midnight, South Elgin Detective Sgt. Mike Doty said.

He added there were no signs of foul play, nor did authorities believe it was a suicide.

Doty declined to say what may have caused Mueller's death, deferring to an autopsy scheduled for Monday by the Kane County Coroner's Office.

“It's a death investigation,” Doty said. “He was found right in that area the near a creek bed. His family had been out looking for him.”

Doty said investigators are trying to determine Mueller's last known whereabouts and who he may have been with. Doty said Mueller's vehicle was not in the area, and he is believed to have traveled to the creek area on foot.

Anyone with information about the incident is asked to call South Elgin police at (847) 741-2151.
