'Piranha 3D' getting a part 2?
The Weinstein Co. is already planning a sequel to "Piranha 3D," the current film about prehistoric flesh-eaters invading a gathering of spring-break revelers.
The R-rated film has earned $18.7 million, less than the movie's $24 million production budget, according to Box Office Mojo. But home-video sales will make the movie profitable, according to Weinstein senior executive David Glasser.
The movie was released Aug. 20 through Weinstein's Dimension Films, which also distributes the "Scream" and "Spy Kids" franchises.
"There is no question when we went into 'Piranha' we were thinking about what the sequel would be," Glasser said. "We have to go through the process and get the scripts right, but we plan to make the picture."
