Support for gays misstates theology
In “Letter hurtful to gays, lesbians” (Dec. 12), the letter writer expressed being offended by a previously printed letter which articulated “hate and religion-based bigotry.” Whereas his feelings are understandable, as he stated several times that God designed gay people that way, his theology misses the mark with Christianity.
When, in the Bible, we understand that God is the perfect Creator, Master and Lord, that there cannot be love without justice, and out of love for His creation, He provided satisfaction for His own, immutable justice by becoming a man, Christ Jesus, and dying on a cross to reconcile us to Himself, we come to a very different conclusion than that of the letter writer.
The Bible does call homosexuality sin in both the Old and New Testaments. God does not make anyone sinful, and yet all of us are sinful. When we say about ourselves, “It is just my nature,” then that is precisely the problem.
Ephesians 4:21-24 says, “Since you have heard about Jesus and have learned the truth that comes from him, throw off your old sinful nature and your former way of life, which is corrupted by lust and deception. Instead, let the Spirit renew your thoughts and attitudes. Put on your new nature, created to be like God-truly righteous and holy.”
The Bible's message is that we are all deserving of death but there is hope (John 3:16) “For God loved the world so much that he gave his one and only Son, so that everyone who believes in him will not perish but have eternal life.”
“God sent his Son into the world not to judge the world, but to save the world through him.” God doesn't overlook sin but when we turn from it He forgives it through Jesus Christ. Now that's Love!
