Barrington train fatality a suicide, coroner says
The death of a 62-year-old woman killed Friday when struck by a train at the Barrington Metra station was a suicide, Lake County Coroner Dr. Richard Keller said.
The North Barrington woman was hit by a Chicago-bound Metra train shortly after 7 a.m. outside the station, 201 Spring St.
When emergency crews arrived, the woman was under the train, according to police.
She was taken to Advocate Good Shepherd Hospital in Barrington where she died.
The Barrington Police Major Crash Investigation Team and the Lake County Coroner investigated the incident throughout the day.
Barrington High School District 220 officials quickly sent out an e-mail blast to parents in the community Friday about the incident and posted on its Website that the pedestrian struck "was NOT A STUDENT." The district offered "sympathy and thoughts for the adult who was injured in this unfortunate accident."
The high school community has seen several suicides over the past few years, the most recent occurring Aug. 18 when a 17-year-old Barrington High School senior was killed by a train.
