Kane County Cougars now Royals' Class A affiliate

KANSAS CITY, Mo. -- The Kansas City Royals have announced they are changing their Class A affiliate from Burlington, Iowa, to the Kane County Cougars in Geneva.

The Burlington Bees have been affiliated with the Royals since 2001. The new player-development contract with Kane County runs through 2012. Both teams are part of the Class A Midwest League.

The Cougars had been affiliated with the Oakland Athletics since 2003. The Royals called the new alliance with Kane County, about 45 minutes from Chicago, a perfect fit for the team's fan base.

The Cougars have played in the postseason for six of the past eight years and have sent more than 100 players to the Majors.

Burlington finished last in the Midwest League this season with a 46-90 record.
