Celebrate Mexican Independence Day at fiesta
Talented performers, traditional delicacies and a celebration of Mexican culture will come together for quite the fiesta this month in Hanover Park.
The Hanover Park Park District and the Hanover Park Park Foundation will host their seventh annual Mexican Independence Day Celebration from 6 to 10 p.m. Friday, Sept. 17, at the Community Center gym, 1919 Walnut Ave.
The fun will kick off with some kid-friendly activities including a magic show at 6 p.m. and a performance by the Genesis youth folkloric ballet at 6:30 p.m. Free games, face painting and balloon twisting will take place throughout the night.
At 7 p.m., Los 5 Magnificos de la Quebradita dance troop will perform aerobatic dance numbers, followed by the official rite of independence at 7:30 p.m. Banda Valleverde will play live music for the final two hours.
Traditional food such as tamales, tacos, elotes and other Mexican delicacies will also be available for purchase.
Now through Sept. 16, tickets are on sale at the Community Center and Dino's Finer Foods. Prices are $5 for adults and $3 for kids 10 and under ($8 and $5 the day-of). Children 3 years and younger are free. Tickets are limited.
