Pelosi's problem is policy not personality
Columnist Eugene Robinson clearly has every right to say that Nancy Pelosi did her job well. She had a big majority to work with and she delivered some massive legislative victories for the Democrats. He says in person she's warm and engaging; funny, earthy, and just plain good company. That's fine. But that's got nothing to do with why I'm glad she's no longer speaker.
I disagree with her policies, not her personality, as Mr. Robinson portrays it. She believes bigger government is always the answer. She supports more entitlements, more regulations, more wealth redistribution, more government spending, and less individual freedom, accountability and responsibility. She distrusts and demonizes business and the free market, She makes “profits” sound like a dirty word, and she has social beliefs that run totally counter to many conservative Americans. She helped create the most poisonous and partisan environment in Washington that I have ever seen.
There are a whole host of reasons why American voters did what they did last Tuesday. It had virtually nothing to do with the kind of personality Pelosi has. Many Americans simply have a much different view of what our country should value and what we should stand for.
