Elgin police identify man killed by pickup

Police have identified the 66-year-old man who was struck and killed by a vehicle Saturday night in Elgin.

Aldofo Patino was crossing Dundee Road at the intersection of Dundee and Ann Street about 6:10 Saturday night when an 18-year-old driving a 2001 Chevrolet Silverado pickup truck struck him, authorities said. Police said they did not know where Patino lived.

Patino was taken to Provena St. Joseph Hospital, where he was pronounced dead, said Elgin police spokeswoman Sue Olafson.

Police continued to investigate the incident Sunday but said it was an accident and there will not be charges brought against the driver.
