Daily Herald names Dungey, Lee deputy managing editor

Daily Herald Assistant Managing Editors Diane Dungey and Ginny Lee each have been promoted to deputy managing editor, announced Executive Editor Madeleine Doubek.

A 29-year veteran of the Daily Herald who began in the newspaper's Lake County bureau, Dungey has been a local reporter, a metro reporter, weekend editor, project editor, features editor and an assistant managing editor. An award-winning writer and editor, she was named the newsroom's employee of the year in 1990.

Most recently, Dungey led the development and execution of the Daily Herald's school pension project. She also will help lead the paper's suburban-focused big picture report.

Lee, a 26-year veteran of the Daily Herald, has been a local reporter, metro reporter, assistant city editor, assistant metro editor, weekend editor, Sunday editor and an assistant managing editor. An award-winning writer and editor, she was the company's part-time employee of the year in 1996 and manager of the year in 2008.

She has managed the newspaper's weekend editions and staffing for 10 years. Lee also has led the development and execution of the newspaper's red-light camera project.

Dungey and Lee will continue to lead the senior writing staff and tackle myriad other duties, said Doubek.

"Both are key newsroom leaders upon whom we rely greatly," Doubek said. "These promotions reflect their exceptional skills and judgment as well as their commitment to journalistic excellence and to Paddock Publications."
