Expos, shows, festivals
•The Smart Farm, an educational and nutritional project at the Ron Beese Community Garden, 50 Rotary Drive, Barrington, is hosting several upcoming family events. Two Family Days, from noon to 2 p.m. Sept. 12 and Oct. 17, will allow families to learn about gardening and participate in activities for all ages. Also, Smart Farm is hosting a Fall Harvest Celebration, with music and food, from 5 to 7:30 p.m. Sept. 18 at Citizens Park in Barrington. For details, see smartfarms.org.
•Fall Festival Weekend, Oct. 8-9, We Grow Dreams, a not-for-profit greenhouse that trains people with disabilities. The weekend features a 4K Walk at Freedom Commons, the lifestyle center at Diehl and I-88 in Naperville where the weekly Garden Market takes place from 9 a.m. to 1 p.m. Also, an open house featuring fall items such as pumpkins and mums plush refreshments and pumpkin painting, will be held at the We Grow Dreams Greenhouse & Garden Center, 1055 W. •Jubilation Housewalk, Sept. 17, St. James Church in Arlington Heights. Hours are 10 a.m. to 4 p.m. View a new Nantucket-style Cape Cod home, a rebuilt and restored 1907 Arts & Crafts bungelow and three other architecturally distinctive homes. Morton Arboretum's Children's Garden celebrates fifth birthday with entertainment and tree-themed games from 11 a.m. to 4 p.m. Sunday, Sept. 12.
•The Seldoms, a Chicago dance troupe, will perform a dance inspired by and among the "Steelroots" sculpture exhibit at 3 p.m. Sept. 12 and again Sept. 18-19; bring lawn chairs/blankets, snacks, water, bug spray.
•The "Fall Garden Shoppe" offers Arboretum-grown perennials, ornamental grasses, and other plants that look magnificent in the fall. Visitor Center Area. 9 a.m.-5 p.m. Saturdays and Sundays and 10 a.m.-5 p.m. weekedays Sept. 18-26.
Chicago Botanic Garden

The Frank Lloyd Wright Preservation Trust is seeking volunteers to assist at the Frank Lloyd Wright Home and Studio in Oak Park. A two-week fall volunteer training course will begin in September.
