When: 7:30 p.m., today

Last week: Carmel def. Joliet Catholic, 31-28; Marist lost to Mishawaka (Ind.), 21-7.

Skinny: Carmel's fans spilled onto the field after their team's exciting win over rival Joliet Catholic in Mundelein last Friday, but the Corsairs will need a similar effort against Marist in order to keep their perfect season intact. Coach Pat Dunne's RedHawks always provide Carmel a challenge and are coming off a 2009 season that saw them reach the Class 8A state final downstate, where they lost to Maine South. Dunne guided the RedHawks to the state quarterfinals in 2008, his first season. Marist graduated star QB Mike Perish (Western Michigan, 37 TD passes in 2009), but the team features several veterans, including RB McKinley Moore. ... Carmel's option offense has been explosive, piling up an ESCC-best 181 points (45.3 per game), while the defense has yielded just 62 points. Speedy RB Michael Panico (501 yds., 16.2 avg., 6 TDs), FB Jordan Kos (483 yds., 7.9 avg., 6 TDs) and QB Brian Serio (280 yds., 7 avg., 4 TDs) lead the Carmel ground attack. ... LBs Tyler Lees and Luke Venegoni lead the Corsairs in tackles with 49 and 41, respectively. Kevin Cox has 4 sacks, while Mike Cohen and Jake Larson have three apiece. ... Carmel kicker Steven O'Block has booted 3 field goals and has boomed 18 of 32 kickoffs into the end zone for touchbacks.
