Woman, twins hit by fire truck in Libertyville

A woman and her two children were injured slightly when they were hit by a fire truck while crossing a Libertyville street, police officials said.

Libertyville Police Lt. Scott Fabbri said the woman was pulling her two children in a wagon in the crosswalk at Milwaukee and Cook avenues about 9:30 a.m. Wednesday when they were hit by the fire truck. Officials did not release the identities of the woman and the children.

Fabbri said the fire truck was inching into the crosswalk and didn't see the woman. The truck knocked over the wagon and struck the woman, police said.

The woman and the children were taken to Advocate Condell Medical Center in Libertyville where they were treated for minor abrasions, he said. They have since been released, Fabbri said.

The driver of the fire truck, Lt. Thomas R. McDermott, was cited for failing to obey a traffic signal, Fabbri said. He has been temporarily off driving pending a review of the incident, police said.
