72-year-old jockey dies weeks after downstate fall
URBANA -- Authorities are still waiting for reports from doctors and medical records before they can say for sure what killed a 72-year-old jockey injured at a county fair.
Champaign County Coroner Duane Northrop told the Effingham Daily News on Wednesday that Harold Lee "Sonny" Dailey of Mattoon died Saturday at Carle Foundation Hospital in Urbana. Dailey was injured Aug. 6 when his horse ran into another horse in a thoroughbred race at the Effingham County Fair.
Northrop says Dailey appeared to have been in good health but suffered a number of severe injuries. They included several broken bones and a punctured lung.
